On the bright side, Zortam Mp3 Player is a free audio player that you can use to listen to music, view cover art & lyrics, and enjoy a rather funky visualization. On the downside, Zortam Mp3 Player can only handle MP3 files and nothing else, the option to view cover art and lyrics is useless if your MP3 files don’t feature this info, and the funky visualization is ultimately wasted if you’re just going to minimize the player and go about your day.

Little time and effort will go into getting Zortam Mp3 Player up and running on a Windows PC, mainly because a simple setup wizard will guide you through all the steps you need to take to install this media player. If you’re not a complete novice and this isn’t your first software installation, you shouldn’t have any problems installing Zortam Mp3 Player on your PC.

I for one found the interface to be cumbersome and rather annoying, with the playback controls hiding out of sight when you need them the most and the upper toolbar being nothing more than an eyesore. But the worst offenders have to be the visualization plug-ins, with their dated feel and complete uselessness. I don’t know about you, but I always minimize the media player and listen to music while I’m working or surfing the web. So even though these visualizations might prove interesting for some, they’re wasted on me.

From a functionality point of view, you can expect the following from Zortam Mp3 Player: play MP3 files and M3U playlists; play, pause, repeat, shuffle the songs; view cover art, lyrics and visualizations. Do not expect to be able to play anything other than MP3 files, do not expect Zortam Mp3 Player to remember the MP3 files you add to the playlist, do not expect to see any lyrics or cover art if this information isn’t included in your MP3 files.

Fun fact: Zortam Mp3 Player includes a FPS counter. Why does an MP3 player need something like that? I honestly have no idea.

Zortam Mp3 Player’s only redeeming quality is that it is free. But then again, there are plenty of other free media players out there that look better, are easier to use, and don’t limit themselves to MP3s only.

Zortam Mp3 Player does indeed work as advertised, allowing you to play MP3 audio files, view cover art and lyrics (if available), and experience a funky visualization. But it can’t handle any other type of audio file, the interface is cumbersome, and the visualizations are ultimately useless if you’re going to minimize the player and go about your day.
